Love Your Music Teaching Job

Most teachers already love the teaching part. They do not usually love scheduling, billing, parent follow-up, recital logistics, marketing, and all the little details that come with running a studio.

At Cincinnati School of Music, our staff handles that work so teachers can come in, teach, and be part of a school that works.

What Makes Teaching at CSM Different

CSM is built around a simple idea: teachers do their best work when the school around them is organized, professional, and serious about student growth.

High-Quality Lessons Matter Here

We care about the quality of the lesson, the progress of the student, and the relationship that develops over time. This is not just a calendar of lesson slots. It is a music school.

Families Are Supported Every Day

Parents know where to go when they have a question. Our office team handles scheduling, billing, parent communication, and day-to-day support so teachers are not carrying every family detail themselves.

We Work to Keep Schedules Moving

CSM invests in enrollment, follow-up, student placement, and retention. We cannot promise every schedule fills overnight, but we are actively working to help strong teachers build productive weekly schedules.

We Take Enrollment and Retention Seriously

Teachers need students in the room, and they need students who stay long enough for real progress to happen. CSM invests in marketing, follow-up, student placement, customer service, and retention so strong teachers have a real foundation to build from.

A Professional Musical Environment

Teachers work in real studios, with real support, around other people who care about music education. The goal is not only to fill lesson times. The goal is to help students grow musically and personally.

W-2 Employment, Not Contractor Work

Teachers receive regular paystubs, a W-2 at tax time, employer-paid payroll taxes, paid no-shows and late cancellations, and access to a 3% SIMPLE IRA match for eligible employees.

A New Teaching Schedule Should Not Feel Improvised

Most new teachers begin with a focused schedule, then grow as student demand, availability, and teaching fit line up. Our admin team helps guide new families to the right teacher instead of leaving teachers to build from scratch.

You will teach in well-equipped studios, work with organized staff, and join a school that values consistency, professionalism, and fit. Whether you are new to Cincinnati or already established, our systems make it easier to settle in and build wisely.

2-Hour Schedule Build Guarantee

During your first six weeks, you will have at least two paid teaching hours each week on the days you are scheduled to teach.

It is a simple way to respect your time while your schedule is getting established.

Are We the Right Music School for You?

That depends on the kind of teaching job you want. CSM is a good fit for teachers who want steady weekly lessons, clear systems, professional support, and students they can build with over time.

CSM May Be a Good Fit If...

  • You want to focus on teaching instead of running the whole business around it
  • You value organized scheduling, clear communication, and professional support
  • You want students you can work with consistently over time
  • You are comfortable teaching inside a school system with shared policies and standards
  • You care about student growth, retention, and the quality of the lesson experience

CSM May Not Be a Good Fit If...

  • You want complete control over every scheduling decision
  • You prefer to manage parent communication, policies, and billing yourself
  • You are looking for casual, occasional, or drop-in teaching only
  • You expect a fully booked schedule immediately
  • You want to operate like an independent studio inside someone else's building

Teachers Notice When the School Around Them Works

"CSM was a great experience! It can't be emphasized enough that the administrative staff takes care of literally everything from scheduling issues to payment to student assignments. As a teacher who didn't end up staying in Cincinnati for more than a year, I am confident that I wouldn't have been able to build up nearly as strong of a student base if I hadn't been working here. The owners, Anna and Joe, were great, friendly people who always got back to me promptly. I loved the relaxed atmosphere and the freedom to tailor my teaching style to each student."
Tracey W, CSM Teacher
"CSM is the best environment I've ever taught in. It's filled with gifted, thoughtful instructors and a highly organized staff, which makes it incredibly easy to work here, and easy for students and parents to receive a genuinely high-quality music education. CSM values teachers and customers, and it shows."
James M, CSM Teacher
"I've taught guitar, ukulele, and bass at CSM since the studio opened. I've always enjoyed being part of such a positive, fun learning environment. The teachers here are a cut above most music schools, and students benefit from that with enjoyable, personalized, and informative lessons."
Bill W, CSM Teacher
"I took a long-term sub position teaching piano and voice for four months while in Cincinnati. My experience was fantastic. At every other school I worked at, admin work always ate into my teaching time. At CSM, the professional front desk handled scheduling, payments, marketing, and recitals, leaving me free to teach. I always felt appreciated here. I will genuinely miss teaching at CSM when I relocate."

W-2 Employment, Not Contractor Work

CSM teachers are employees, not independent contractors, and that distinction matters.

Practically, that means regular paystubs, a W-2 at tax time, taxes automatically withheld, and CSM paying the employer side of Social Security and Medicare instead of making teachers carry the full self-employment tax burden themselves.

Eligible teachers can also participate in our 3% SIMPLE IRA match. Teachers are also paid for no-shows and late cancellations, which helps protect income from last-minute attendance changes.

  • W-2 issued each year, making tax time simpler
  • CSM pays the employer portion of Social Security and Medicare taxes
  • Biweekly paystubs and direct deposit
  • 3% SIMPLE IRA match for eligible employees
  • Paid for no-shows and late cancellations
  • Pay stubs from a W-2 employer are accepted by landlords and lenders in ways that self-employment records often are not

Musicians Who Took the Business Side Seriously

Cincinnati School of Music was built by owners who understand both sides of the work: the music and the school behind it.

Joe and Anna have backgrounds in piano performance and business, and CSM has grown from one studio into five locations by staying focused on the things that make teaching work: strong lessons, organized systems, good facilities, steady marketing, and responsive service for families.

That combination matters. A music school can have great teachers and still be hard to work in if the business side is weak. CSM exists to make both sides strong.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days do I need to be available to teach?

Most new teachers start with 1-2 days per week. After-school and evening availability matters most. If you want more days and your schedule is filling well, we can look at expanding you.

Which locations are you hiring for right now?

All five schools have needs at different times: Montgomery, Mason, Maineville, Anderson, and Middletown. We place teachers where student demand, instrument need, location, and availability line up.

Which instruments are in highest demand?

Piano and voice usually have the strongest demand. Strings, guitar, drums, woodwinds, and brass are also welcome, and versatility can help when building a schedule.

Do I need a degree?

No. Some of our strongest teachers do not have music degrees. We hire based on musical skill, communication, reliability, and the ability to connect with students.

Do I need a resume?

No. After your interview, we ask for a short intro video and a playing sample. That tells us more than a resume usually does.

Do I need to apply to more than one location?

No. Apply once to the posting that best matches your instrument and preferred location. If you are open to more than one CSM location, tell us in your application and we will help route you from there.
